Freedom is expensive, preserve it.

We wake up, turn on the lights, brush our teeth, turn on the shower, switch on the coffee marker, get in our cars and drive to work everyday with no second thoughts, we expect it all to happen because we believe we are entitled to it. We do pay our taxes right, we are not at war so everything should work the way we want it had to but have we ever stopped to think how it all became possible or how it is that everyday we can do that?

We have just celebrated Remembrance Day (Veterans day in the US) there is a significant reason we celebrate that day, People lost their lives fighting so that we can have the life that we do today. The cost that some families paid is far too high not to respect the institutions of democracy we have. Voting should be mandatory in my books, if I had it my way, Remembrance Day would not be celebrated once a year, it would be once a month so that we never forget the cost of freedom.

War is not glorious, it is not something to be taken lightly, freedom is more than the ability to do what you want, it carries a mandate for respecting the instruments and people who bring about the peace. Our soldiers should be the highest paid not Politicians, we need to do more for those that give their lives so we can enjoy our own. Freedom is not free, there is far too much blood and sweat that goes into freedom, preserve it.

The only way we can maintain our freedom of speec, freedom of expression, worship and religion and any other freedoms you can think of is our ability to vote. Keep engaged Politically, know what Party’s stand for, know what candidates Stanford for, vote, it matters. Freedom requires an engaged citizenry that know and understand their responsibilities.
